Getting the Wheeling Fever
So I am planning on getting a rebuilt long block from Sunwestautomotiveengines.com and I was thinking of getting the upgraded rv cam for a little more power does anyone have one and did it help? The other question I have is they offer a new cylinder head casting for and extra $100 is there any reason to buy the new one they will both be rebuilt with all the same parts it's just the casting? The engine has the same warrany either way 30 months or 30,000 miles.

Thanks,
Brian

If your head is good there isn't any reason to buy a new one, unless you have had to have the head milled to remove warping from an overheating.

It won't be my engine they are rebuilding so I don't know the history of the head that will be on the long block that I purchase.

Be sure to keep us posted on your project. I'd like to hear how it runs.

Thanks

Well I ordered my engine today with the new cylinder head casting and the rv low end cam. Mike from sunwest said it should be here by friday. I'm hoping to have it in by this weekend.

How about some info on your truck (miles, year, engine)? Maybe I just missed them before. Are you doing the clutch while it's apart? Do you have your cherry picker & stand or are you renting them (maybe you just have a lot of big friends).

Thanks

I have a 92 toyota single cab 4x4 22re with about 170k on the truck and I have a engine hoist already. I will probably do a new clutch but it seems just fine no slipping and it has a good engagement point. I purchased full tune up stuff new water pump and t-stat today just to get everything ready. I will probably have the intake manifold hot tanked while it's apart too.

A toy reman clutch & throwout/pilot bearing refresh is cheap insurance. Unless you really like pulling the motor! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

Well I have everything bolted onto the new long block and I am going to drop it in tomorrow. I'm hoping to have it running tomorrow afternoon.

Got it running today! It is so much quieter than that rod knock I was getting before. I was hoping it would have a little more power than it has. I did put a bigger cam in and it doesn't feel any different just quieter. Will it be have more power once the engine brakes in?

Thanks,
Brian
