I have a 1998 SR5 Ext cab Auto 4X4,lack of power with the 3.4 engine. I hauled a small trailer of firewood and it underpowered in my opinion. is there any thing to do for more power or buy a new truck.

Depends on how much you wanna spend. Supercharger with a few other mods/additions will free up some power but at a small cost. V8 engine swap is possible but could be just as pricey. Buying a Tundra or another truck is another possibility. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Got big tires or hills? This hurts me. But I still have had over 1000 lbs in the bed and it "worked" in the flatlands, did not run out of throttle.

Had some trouble keeping 75-80 in the WV mountains with an engine in the bed.

It is a 3.4 V6. If you're expecting it to match a big V8, it won't.

That said, I've hauled cars on trailers over mountains without any problems holding 70 mph. So perhaps your engine isn't running as it should.

The truck runs good no check engine light on, 265-75-16 tires on it just very low powered for pulling not sure what to do. I do live in Pa so some hills.

I have the 5 speed, 4.1 and 265/75/16.

It does not seem like a giant difference that the stock tires are 265/70/16 but I looked at a bunch of stock tire sizes and gears for toyota trucks and concluded that they probably would have used different gear set had they installed the 75s at the factory.

I'm going back to the 70 when I change tires. (I want to have a spare)

When's the last time you had it tuned up? Have you tried running some Seafoam through it?

Water injection can net you some extra power a whole lot cheaper than a supercharger.

The check engine light won't come on for something like a blocked air filter or squashed tailpipe. Both of which would kill power. There are many things that can kill towing ability without causing the check engine light to turn on.

Your tire size is close to stock and not enough of a diameter increase to kill power.

You say the power isn't adequate, but you aren't describing what happens. So really none of us can comment if the power truly down, or your expectations are too high.

If you expect the truck to pull 5 tons at 80 mph up a mountain, it certainly cannot and your expectations would indeed be too high. But if it can't haul a little trailer with 1,000 lbs of dirt above 40 mph on the flats, then it is indeed down on power.

Remember, you've got all of 190 horsepower. A powerhouse the T100 is not.

The truck has a new air filter and runs good but when hauling 2000 LBS it really needs to shift down it also sounds like the motor is going to blow up it runs so hard. Also would a duaL exhaust help and do they sound decent with them. alsowhere would I run sea foam through it
