Does anybody know where I can find a m23x1.25 tap? I have some 1.25 inch stainless that I would like to use for a drag link and tie rod.

Good luck searching, that is a rather uncommon size as far as metric taps go. Maybe a specialty tool place, and don't forget you need right and left hand thread versions. I know Marlin had a tool maker cut him a left hand tap for that size when he started making his HD tie rods back in the late '90s, I was at his shop the day that tool came in. I forget how much he paid for that, but you could buy a lot of tie rods and drag links for what that tap cost.

Or try a machine shop that can set up a thread cutting bit and use the thread chasing gears on the lathe to cut the threads inside the tube.

Are you absolutely sure it's m23? That does not seem to exist here on Earth.

So far I have found right hand thread m23x1.5, 2.0, and 3.0. With my discount I can get them for $40. But it is pointless if it isn't the right thread pitch. I am pretty sure that it is m23x1.25. That should be the diameter and thread pitch of the fj-80 tres.

I emailed a place today. They responded. They do have the taps. $106 (from poland) for the lh thread and $86 for the rh (from California). Plus shipping. Anybody need a tie rod or drag link? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
