I've read a lot of forums, but found the right answer. my carb is draining into the oil and getting worse. I've replaced both accerator pumps and no help.
Could it be: -float needle valve? -fuel pump diaphram bad and draining into the block? -float chamber gasket bad, leaking into the intake? or what else?
I have a rebuild kit, but like to know the root cause first before I tear it down blindly.

We just had a rather lengthy discussion about this very thing LINKY You'll find it quite informative. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the reply, it still doesn't tell why gas drains into the oil. It just addresses the hard starting problem. Mine does hard start, but I know my fuel bowl is empty because the gas drained into the oil.
Its either the carb or maybe the fuel pump, I think.
Any more ideas??????

Gas in the oil sure sounds like a fuel pump issue. Not real sure how it could go from the bowl to the oil, so you may have 2 problems. But definitely check the fuel pump.

Is the fuel just disappearing overnight or have you verified that it is getting into the oil? (IE does your oil smell of fuel?)

Yes, there's gas in the oil. I've been checking the float bowl for the last two mornings and I'm seeing gas now??? I don't know what I've done to stop it or slowed it down.
I guess the gas got in the oil before I replaced the AAP (I hope). It has been hard to start again, but I think I have the choke stem in the electric choke housing wrong. I tries to close but stills leaves a 1/2" gap. That's probably causeing the hard start now. I'm looking at it tonight.
I pulled off the fuel pump and compressed the arm, blocked the ports with my finger for 2 minutes and it held suction fine. So that's not it.
I changed the oil so I'll keep my eye on it for more gas.
Thanks for the replys and if I find something else I'll update the thread for future use.
Now to fix the leaking inner axle seal.

Could it be that you connected the line from the carb to the wrong port on the fuel pump? There is a big difference in volume & pressure between the 2 "out" ports on a fuel pump. The larger volume/higher pressure port is for the return line on a 22R.
