I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. While driving at very low speeds their is a ticking noise coming from the drivers side front wheel area. What can this possibly be? U-joint????

Usually it is a hubcap or a small rock in it.. Check there first. Big JIm

And if not BJ's rock in the hubcap then probably your CV joint going south. Look at the rubber boots and see if they're still intact. If they're split all the grease could be gone. Not too difficult to replace the boots and repack with grease if the joint's not too far gone yet.

How difficult is this to replace? any tips would be appreciated

I started working on the truck today and I couldn't get the nut that holds the hub off. I torched it, slammed it, and sprayed WB 40 on it. I was working on it for 3 hours and it would not come off. I was cranking it counter clock wise. Can someone give me some input on how to get this off.

Matt if in doubt about left or right handed threads look closely at the threads themselves and see ehichaway it will take to unscrew the nut. With tight nuts I have lots of sucess with hammer blows. The old fashioned way works well but an air hammer is good too. Big JIm

See link below. Seems like a lot of people are having this problem just in the past few weeks. Once you get that nut off it'll be bout 1 hour per axle. It is typical threaded - counter-clockwise to get it off. Take the wheel and all off first, put the wheel back on w/2 lug nuts and let it sit on the ground, then use a breaker bar to get that nut off. It shouldn't be that tight. Also, if you don't have the crimper that clamps the boots it costs ~$30. Or just use zip ties like Chrysler does now. Using the wrong tool to crimp the clamp results in failure as one of my co-workers now knows. http://images.google.com/imgres?img...3DJEEP%2BHUB%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN
