Need a Spot
Hi,

1994 model year 4Runner, 3.0 v6. Automatic Trans. is failing and I may replace it. Its code from doorjamb:
A/TM G144 / A340H

I have 2 transmissions to choose from:

1/ 1989 model year Ext Cab Pickup, 3.0 v6, Auto Trans. DoorJamb code:
A/TM G252 / A340H

2/ 1992 model year 4Runner, 3.0 v6, Manual Trans
DoorJamb code:
A/TM G284 / R150F

What are my options for swapping either of these transmissions into the 94 4Runner? I can find lots of information on the net about what the codes mean, but not much on bolt-in compatibility, etc.

thanks very much,
Scotty

Either will bolt up. The A340H will be a direct swap.

Of course, a lot more work to bolt in the R150 manual transmission in place of your A340H auto trans.

Roll Me Over
The code w/starting w/G refers to the gears in the 3rd members, the A340H is for the automatic tranny. As mentioned the auto will be a direct bolt it, and should work from any 2nd gen Runner/pickup.

If you can drive a 5-spd or ever wanted to learn, the swap is doable, you just need the cluster master and slave cylinders, the petal and linkage, and I believe a manual transfercase, I don't think the auto will still work w/a manual transmission. It will take longer and probably cost a bit more, but you will get better performance and mpg's for your effort.
