Need a Spot
|
Hi everyone,
New to the forum and I am needing some help. I have an 84 with a 22R. Prev owner made a lot of changes, it is a different motor, complete after market exhaust and I don't know what else. It won't pass smog and this weekend I noticed that there is no o2 sensor, the port on the manifold is plugged. My question is, where does the wire from the sensor go? I have searched many forums and googled it but I cannot find out where the wire from the sensor goes to. Thanks for any help.

There's a wire that comes from the main harness near where the coil sits.

I found a green plug that is capped coming out of the coil, but not a wire from the harness, any ideas where it ends, that way I can start looking from the other end and work my way back to the sensor. Or just rewire the whole thing.

Check for an ECU under your driver's seat. Supposedly on the California spec 22r's had a O2 sensor.

The green plug w/cap from the coil is your rpm output.
How is your truck smog'd, Fed or CA? IIRC, only CA smog'd 22r's had the O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold, yours may not need one.
What were the smog numbers? The more info you post up, the better chance we have to help you.

The ecu for carb'd 22r's is behind the passenger side kick panel, just like the re's and the 3.0's

I don't know how it is smogged, the truck has had a lot done to it and I am not sure how to tell. I don't have any smog numbers, it aborted the test on idle, the guy told me it was running with to much oxygen to even do the test.

Too much O@ that is a new one, usually they fail because of too much HC's. I don't think it is related to not having an O@ sensor either because the PO removed it or because it never cane w/one. when O2 sensors fail, the system runs rich, not lean as your test shows. The 22r's have an air induction valve that could be stuck open, allowing too much O2 into the system.
Other than failing the test, how does it run?

It idles rough and, after the engine idles down it idles so rough it sounds like it is going to stall, it's not until the engine gets a lot warmer that it idles a little rough <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Is it a stock carb or aftermarket, have tried adjusting it?
I would also check the timing.
Having to much O2 is still a bit odd, too bad you couldn't get a reading?
