Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'm considering installing a Diesel into my 1988 Montero. I found this on Ebay, and it appears to be a complete install. Do you guys think it's a good deal, and will it actually bolt in with NO difficulty?

Body Damage is Cool
Depends what you consider bolt in. Doubt it is as easy as stated. There will always be issues with electrical, gauges, and fuel. There's gonna be some welding and grinding somewhere. I would bet the engine mounts would need changing at the very least. But, I could be wrong there.

That's an easy transplant, if you can manufacture mountings etc.

Electrical is easy for a (non-ECU) diesel:

  • Starter (off old engine)
  • Alternator (off old engine)
  • Fuel cut-off (connect to ignition)

Things that could extend your budget:
  • Mountings (engine & tranny)
  • Prop shafts (mods)
  • Air con pipes
  • Power steering pipes
  • Transmission hump mods, for levers (?)
  • Radiator & heater pipes
  • tranny cooler (I assume it's auto)

It will thus depend on your DIY skills or access to somebody else's.

Don't ascribe to malice anything that can be adequately explained as stupidity!

Need a Spot
looks to be the same as what i swapped into my 87 Raider ...every thing will bolt right in ...the 2.6 gas motors we have here are the same block as the 4D56 ...just a little diferent internals ...but every thing will blot on the same ...i am using gas engine mounts, starter, auto tranny ...AT tranny torque converter did not bolt to the diesel flex plate so i had to use the gas one and also gas starter ...that whole package should bolt right in tho ...just have to figure out wiring and get a fuel filter set up from a diesel ...make sure you have the wire for your OD hooked up to temp sensor on the motor or just ground it like i did so i can kick in OD even if motor is cold ...2,700 is ok deal ...or i'll sell ya my truck for the right price ..hehe
