Getting the Wheeling Fever
I just re-read the faq and only find tire stuff, I did see that the factory wheels are 6" wide. What is the back spacing, and what back spacing works well, I'm only running 30x9.50's. I like Crager soft 8's, and I think their standard bs is 4".

1989 Raider 3.0 5 speed 225K Possible rebuild about 30k ago, no proof.
Dual Bouncy seats, HL washers. New Mud King 235's on 15x7 Crager soft 8's. Dark tint. Superwinch hubs. Herculined Interior.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'm in the same boat as you, here is a bit more info.

stock alloy's (at least on a '94 SR) 15 x 7 +12mm offset
lug pattern - 6 lugs x 5.5" or 6 x 139.7mm
Maybe someone can chime in on the hub centric/lug centric thing. I'm pretty sure these are hub centric vehicles, but can you put lug centric wheels on? (I'm hijacking your thread but it's the same topic!)I already know GM and toyota has the same pattern.
I found some used tacoma steelies for 40 bucks each, if they have the right offset I can put those on I hope.

Oh, back to the Cragars, I'm pretty sure the B.S. of 4" (zero offset right?) makes them a perfect fit but pretty sure doesn't really cut it.

Stock wheels for the Gen I is 15" x 6" with 4" backspace, either steel or alloy. If you're not going to run larger tires, you could just paint your wheels shiny black. Some guys are using the stock wheels with 33x10.5's AT/MT or 32x9.5 Swampers.

I'm running some aftermarket alloys, 15 x 8 with 4" BS, 33x12.5 muds with no rubbing issue. I've trimmed the front bumper ends and splash gaurds at the front edge of the front wheel wells already.

The Gen I wheels are not hub-centric.

My 87 came with 15x6 rims, 4.375" BS
I changed to 31x10.5's on 15x7's, 3.75" BS
then to 33x12.5's on 15x8's, 3.25" BS
No rubbing on suspension, but bumper plastic end cap needed trimming.

I'm looking at a set of 295/75 R16's (~33.5x11.5) on 16x8's, 4.25" BS to use as hiway tires (to give the 33x12.5's a rest on long high speed runs), and I'm really hoping they have no issues. The inner tire edge will line up with the original tire's inner edge, so it will be close on tight turns.

Hub-centric is of no use to you, as the center hole will be too small to fit the older Mitsu/Toy/etc hubs that we have in Gen1's.

Here is a rear view of the 33x12.5s on 8s:

Here is a flexed view of 33x12.5s on 10s in the back, 4" BS:

Here is a view of 32x11.5s on stock rims, flexed...tire hits rear of frame:

I have other views, too, but these show the limits I've found for my truck.

I have 33X12.5's on 15X10 Rims, with a 4" backspacing. They rub on the fenders both front and rear when flexing or hitting bumps while turning. No rubbing on frame or suspension components though. Stick out a lot past the fenders, ~4-5" on the front, ~3" on the back. I think if I put my sway bar back on they wouldn't rub, but sway bars are for men who wear panties.

So whatch'ya sayin'?

I like my Gen I 4-door sway bar, helps a bunch in the tight corners.

Tony, couldn't agree more. I love how mine rides and handles without the sway bars.

Russell, do you prefer the thong type or the more supportive granny panty

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...
