Body Damage is Cool
So to make a long story short, I've had about 6 different carbs on my truck since I made the mistake of replacing the factory one. I've finally got one on there that's the right tag #, that no 'professional' outfit has ever touched (although one PO). It runs great. I commute about 10 miles to work every day, mostly 55MPH, except for a little in town right toward the end. Lately I had only been getting about 17MPG. Granted I drive with a pretty heavy foot, but that still wasn't quite what I was hoping.

I put my VIN in the EPC and grabbed the part numbers for all the right jets for the carb, and ordered all new ones from Bob Bridge Toyota (www.1sttoyotaparts.com). When I pulled the old ones out, the idle and 2nd jets weren't marked, but the main jet that was in there was stamped 119, and the new one was stamped 116, and obviously had just a hair smaller opening.

Now I'm not sure how much I can attribute to the jets, and how much is the fact that I'm pretty sure they switched to summer gas recently, but either way I just filled up and got 19.5MPG

New jets are only about 5 bucks apiece, and now I know for sure that they're all the right ones.

The secondary jet had fused to the carb body and had to get drilled out (tons 'o' fun), but other than that it was a quick and painless process.

YMMV.

very cool

i just did the same type of thing (except for on efi which is totally different) i was getting about 13-15 mpg on the highway with my 94 22re that has been converted to a 4wd sas from 2wd. it used to get about 20 mpg before the swap and ever since i sased it has sucked the gas because of the gear change. i had the afm richened up a click before i did the swap to compensate for the larger exhaust and header so i decided to try to lean it out a little bit and adjust the timing accordingly. im running 5.29's and 35's so my rpms are slightly higher than the stock ratio would be with stock tires and 4.10's and i figured with the aem a little fat it was just buring it off faster. bottom line is i bumped the timing to about 8btdc shorted and went 4 clicks lean on the afm and my mileage came back to about 18-20 highway mpg.

not the same thing as you but a relevent increase considering the fuel crisis..

ALSO BEWARE OF ETHANOL, IT WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE IT ATTRACTS MOISTURE. YOU WILL NEED TO CHANGE YOUR FUEL FILTERS MORE OFTEN DUE TO THE HIGHER ETHANOL CONTENT OF TADAYS FUELS. it is corrosive too.
