Getting the Wheeling Fever

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to fix this or does it mean I need a new trans. When I shift to 5th gear it will go all the like it is supposed to but it will only slightly touch the gear and if I apply more gas is will start grinding. Also I have to hold it to keep it into the 5th gear position. Thanks Frankie

Check the shifter boot, pull it out and see if shifter stays put. Do you have a bodylift? May need to bend the shifter. If that is not the cure, the problem is mechanical. Try a tranny shop or search www.car-part.com for a replacement.

Check the fluid levels (FIRST), then drain the fluids and tell us what you find.
Most likely, you are looking at a rebuild. 5th goes, 4th will follow and it will soon die.
Rebuilds are a pain. You will be hard pressed to find someone who has even seen the inside of an Isuzu transmission. One from a salvage yard is probably your best bet.
Good Luck, Michael

I have checked the boot. And yes I have a body lift. The boot is not holding it and the floor has been modifed so the shifter does not touch it. The fluild levels are good. I was planning on doing the trans from a salvage yard but there is only one I can find and Im not sure if it is good or bad or even man. I just called and they said they had one there. Is there any other year or truck/SUV that I can get it from that is the same? Thanks

If you have the 4cyl, the trans from a 1st gen Amigo or 2.3/2.6 Trooper will work as well.
