yesterday while driving home and stopped at a red light i noticed a sudden drop in engine RPM, it was enough for me to notice. now both brake light and battery light are on at the same time. what does this indicate? i searched in the archives but nothing found.

I suspect the alternator. start the truck, and take off the neg cable off the battery. If the truck shuts off, It's the alt or the connection from the alt. That's where I would start.

Typically, not the best procedure. While nothing detrimental normally happens, all the conditions are right for electrical mishaps. Better to take it to a parts store (independent, preferrably) and have them test the entire system using a handheld like a Midtronics.

BTW, x2 on the alternator being the usual culprit.

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

Alt. is going out.

I had Advance Auto test a battery for me a few months ago and they said it was bad. The battery still works today.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

thanks guys..it's the alternator for sure and also the fan clutch is gone as well, easy to turn by hand. oh and a vacuum leak from some thingy on top of the upper intake, i'll post a picture of what i suspect shortly.

i do have to say though is that my sport has taking a beating both on and offroad so this is nothing and especially at 160k. a side from routine maintenance this is the first time that something major needs to be replaced other then the idler arm.
