Body Damage is Cool

Currently I'm running 35x12.5 on the same wheels with about 3" of lift, firewall seam has been pounded. I do get some rubbing still on hard bumps when turned, but it doesn't happen enough to really bug me. There are also some rub marks on my TC idler arm, but its not something I've ever noticed while driving and must only happen at full turn.

What's the 3" comprised of? And is that front & back? A smidge off topic, but inquiring minds would like to know...
I still have the 3" bl & 1.5" bj spacer in place (dead centered between the bump stops, so I figure it's .4" or so additional from the spacer) & a very flattened body seam... About the same results as you - occasional rubbing when cranked on a bump, but minor & negligible. I don't have any rubbing on my idler arm, but it's due to having my steering stops out just a tad (had clearance issues with the bottom shock mount being extended out). I'm back to stock height in the rear after swapping back an AAL for the overload & I'm using the stock shackles again as well... I'd like to figure out how to get a bit more flex from the rear (droop, not stuff), but that's for another day. Have also been considering a little clearancing on the rear wheelwell openings (still don't have my flaps on, front OR back ). How'd you go about solving the rear?

While we are on the subject, does anyone know if a 285/75/16 Will fit on stock truck with stock 16" rims and not cause any real rubbing issues? Its eerily close to 33x10.5 but just about and inch wider (more like 3/4"). I have heard we can fit 32x11.5 with ease so I figure a tire that measures 32.8x11.3 on a 16x7 toyota rim will work since it will squeeze it better than a 16x8 or 16x10.

Im really considering getting tires that size as I saw a 2nd or 3rd gen 4Runner with them on stock rims and they said they fit ok with minor fender pounding. Course after I fix all m yother issues..

Shouldn't have much issue with the width; probably more issue with height. Other than the body seam at the back of the wheelwell while bumping in a turn if it's not flat & the flaps, you should have okay clearance on just about everything else... I don't see that minor of a variance in incursion depth being an issue with the control arms or the tre's.

Thats what i thought. But I figure that a 33x10.5 works, why not a 32.8x11.3 tire? I mean a BFG AT 33x10.5 is in all actuality a 32.7x10.6. I do wonder if that 1 extra inch b/c of the 16" rim may matter though. We shall have to see.. Worst case scenario I get a body lift.

I'm running 285's (BFG AT KO's) on the stock rims. Had some rubbing issues at full lock and on some trails with only low profile bumpstops and 25MM Sway Away t-bars slightly cranked. Not much of an issue around town but definitely noticeable on the trail. I never hammered the pinch weld down.

I added some 1" SDORI ball joint spacers, machined down from 1.5", and no more rubbing. To level out the rear, I added Airlift Airbags. They can add potentially up to 3" of lift in the rear but I added them primarily to handle the weight of my Four Wheel Camper.

I dont think I am gonna have any issues, my rim backspacing is less than stock since I got some Mickey thompson classics and the tires measure 32.8x11.3, we shall see tho.

Although someone on yotatech with a 2nd gen 4runner had no issues at all even with droop and stuff using 01 runner rims.

Front is 4" susp. lift, t-bars un-cranked an inch. Rear is the chevy springs, and they were probably about 3" in the first place. I don't have any clearance problems in the rear at all, but that's probably because when I mounted the springs I basically centered the tires in the wheel wells.

I've searched and sirched and surcht' all morning, and can't find much in the archives besides this thread...

Need new tires again. Had my T for about 10 years now. Have loved my 32x11.5/15 BFG AT KO's that are bald now, and am contemplating getting the same size and make again, OR going 33x10.5/15 or as someone has mentioned here before... 285x75 on a set of stock 2001 16 Tacoma wheels, which I assume are 16x7's.

Is there any new feedback to be had out there? Has anyone tried the 33x10.5/15 on stock T100 wagon steel wheels or the 285x75 on 16x7 with stock backspacing, with ZERO lift? I'm very close to going with a 2 inch Body Lift and 33x12.5 15's but am happy with the height and have no idea what kind of shape these bolts are going to be in after 15 years of Illinois winters.

Thanks in advance!

I was running some 16 inch mickey thompson 16x8 with 4.25 backspace and some 265x76x16 (32x11.5) with no real issues. It rubbed on the mud flap up front at full lock, otherwise was fine.

Interesting. Try using the "Rims and Tires" words in the search box at the top of each page just under the banner advertising.

There is a wealth of information on what fits and does not fit; especially for Toyota.
