My T100 has the original headlamps (170,000 miles) and they are VERY cloudy from years and years of weather and miles.. New ones cost about $175 each but the guy at the local auto parts store suggested trying a product to restore them for about $20.. eBay has tons of products saying they are the best, has anyone ever restored headlamps?? Can anyone suggest a certain product that works? Does polishing compound work? Thanks!

If you take some light rubbing compound and go to work it will easily restore them.
Also ATF on them will do the same but it doesnt really last a long time.

I use Mother's Powerball attachment on a drill and some plastiX polish. Just take yer time and don't burn the plastic. Touch it up once a month and you'll be good to go. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for all the advice.. looks like I am going to save a lot of money by not replacing them.. I did not have any rubbing compound but did have some polishing compound.. tried that and it removed alot of the cloudiness.. I will keep working on it but want to thank everyone for the help!!

Toothpaste is a good rubbing compound for this. Use a soft pad on an electric drill and take your time.

did this a couple of months ago on an ex gf's jeep. there is a UV film on the headlights that yellows over many years. get some sand paper in grits of 320, 600, 1200, 2000 and a sanding block from autozone. tape off the area around the headlights, then get a garden hose and just barely get a trickle of water going on the headlights and wet sand with the sandpaper on the sanding block in a circular motion and go through the sand papers from lager number to smaller. at 2000 the headlight will have very vine scratches on it, then use 3m rubbing compound (or any other type of liquid scratch remover) and a rag and rub it in until the scratches dissapear and you are left with shiney headlights.

I just did mine with some 35 year old DuPont polishing compound and a paper towel. In 15 minutes they were acceptably clear.

This is an "all in one" package of everything you need. Permatex makes is so most auto parts stores should have it. Lens Cleaner
