I just hooked up a vacuum gauge in my '94 4x4 22re 5 spd. I tapped into the pcv valve. I noticed that when I'm cruising down the road at 60 mph in fifth gear on level ground and very little wind the gauge is reading quite low (between 5-10). I think it was closer to 5 Hg. What does yours read? I'm wondering if I have a vacuum leak or some other issue. Anyway, I'm glad I got it nevertheless.

I feed my gauge off one of the 3 ports at the back on the intake (the clear line runs to the gauge):

5-10" Hg is pretty common up at highway speeds. That says the engine is pulling in a fair amount of air and putting out a fair amount of power. Get down to 0" and that is it, max air flow and max power. I basically use the gauge as a "how much extra power is there", like if you are thinking of pulling out and passing someone but are down near 0" on the gauge, might as well forget it as you won't have any extra "get up and go" left.

Ok, thanks. It sounds like my numbers are fairly normal.

Need a Spot
I'd like to add a vacuum gauge (as well as a tranny temp gauge) to my '90 Runner build. Any recommendations as to what brand and where to buy? Not looking for "name brand."

Thanks

I used a Sunpro gauge, picked up at the local auto parts store:

I mainly looked for something with a 2-1/16" dia. to fit my gauge pod and a 270 degree sweep and no boost function since I don't have a turbo.
