Hello Everyone,

I haven't been on here that much because I've been so busy with work. But now I need everyone's help again....

My 2000 Rodeo has been giving me problems as of late. When I try to start the car (especially in the mornings) it does not start. The accessories turn on, but it car won't turn over and it just makes a "click" "click" sound. It does not sound like a bad starter type sound. Just no sound at all, except the clicking. After trying to start the car about 5 to 6 times, it will eventually start. What could it be???

I am also experiencing another problem. The other day, I pulled into a gas station and put my car into park, The engine turned off by itself before I got to turn it off. It just shut down. And another time, I was in reverse backing out of the driveway, and it too just turned off. I restarted the car and it started up just fine.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? I don't have enough money to buy a new car, so this gas guzzler is my daily driver and I would like to fix the problem before I get left stranded somewhere. Thanks in Advance...

I'd put money on it that it's your starter contacts that are worn. You don't need a new starter, just the brass contacts that go in it.

I did a post on here a while back on how to do it. Starter Removal Link

As for the sudden dying, perhaps a fuel cutoff or lack of air? I think you're gonna need to see it do a few more times before you can really figure out what's going on.

Body Damage is Cool
Although unlikely, a sudden dying could be related to fuel starvation. IIRC the ECM senses low fuel pressure and will shut off the engine. For $10 and 20 minutes, it is pretty cheap insurance to change the filter...

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Mine was shutting off periodically like you describe and a FPR kit from Jerry fixed the problem.
