I never really saw the point of the H1. Maybe its because my own experience was riding around in military versions that barely topped out at 55 mph, were way too wide for most off road trails (broke a few mirrors) and seemed like a lot of room was wasted with that huge center hump.

I supposed they had the advantage of essentially just being able to point it and drive it like a tank or cat and it go most places except it wouldn't knock over trees like a tank or cat would do.

Then you add what a pain it is to drive and ride in on the street.

But agreed, I wouldn't have discontinued it either. It is still more practical that some of the other offerings. I wonder why the price went so dramaticly higher when there wasn't much difference between the first and last models.

I've always wondered the same thing. Unless you wanted to cruise around in the desert, I can't see the benefit of an H1. I did have fun driving the snot out of a few in the Schwartzwald, but I'd take a Monty or a Cruiser over one any day.

I'd probably feel differently if I had a tiny penis. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Back in the early 80's the Army developed the doctrine of Light Infantry. The key point to this was it's 100% Mechanized, everyone rides, nobody walks. At this point you should rent and watch "The Pentagon Wars" with Kelsey Grammer. With the Bradley over budget the Army lacked any general purpose APC so they bought large numbers of H1's to fill the gap in this mechanized fantasy.

Now were building those ugly IED proof 6x6's <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> There ugly but anything beats the sand bag I used to sit on in a H1 to protect the "Jewels" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I thought that was a fantastic movie. Very insightful, frustrating, and comical. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
