Need a Spot
ok, i have a big problem. First, let me start off by mentioning that the chasis on the driver side, right by where the stabilizer link is at, where there is two screws , is cracked and is in need of welding.

ok, so i leave my house today and i make my usual right turn to get my way to work, all of a sudden i hear a loud popping noise coming from the steering wheel. Now my steering wheel is extra loose when turning it and i cant make complete right turns cuz its cut off.

so i meet my brother at the mall and i tell him whats happening. i turn the car on and turn the steering wheel all the way to the right to show him the problem and a bolt from the chasis i spoke about earlier ( right behind the driver side stabilizer link) flies out! im like wtf. so i do it again to see what else is going on and the other bolt left flies out also. wtf! Being the dumbass i am, i do it again, turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and now a triangular piece with three holes in it, one at the very top and one on the far left and another on the far right flies out on the floor. Now im like holy sh^%!! And now my steering wheel is all shot to death and the wheels dont react at all to the steering wheel and i cant steer the car for anything its dead.

So now i have it left at the mall and i dont know if the problem would be because of my chasis being all cracked now its all messed up. Or maybe because one of the screws might have been loose and now they started flying out. Just in case, i have been driving the car with the chasis all cracked just fine for a while maybe the screws where missing a bolt or they were loose, or is it the chasis being all cracked causing this disaster. also, when the bolts flew off their wasnt any sign of the screws that go on the other end to tighten them up anywhere, And the triangular piece fell off with screws or bolts at all.

any type of advice would be very suitable and appreciated at this time <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

ps. im going later over there to check whats going on to see if i can screw everything back on with the rights nuts and bolts and get home to quickly get my chasis welded@@@ thanks!!!!!!!!11

I think YOU should get that ride to someone that DOES know something. Maybe a tow truck and have it taken to a good front end shop... I am advising you to NOT do this work yourself.

Body Damage is Cool
I would strongly agree with Big Jim -- do not work on this vehicle yourself! Get someone who knows what they are doing to fix it. You are dealing not only with your own safety here (which you have the right to screw up if you wish), but you are dealing with everyone else's safety that is on the road near you!

The fact that you continued to drive the vehicle "for a while" after you knew the frame was crcked in the area of the steering gear is testimony to the fact that you not only don't know what you're doing, but you seem to lack the capacity to appreciate the consequences of your decisions.

If you get into an accident and, God forbid, kill or seriously injure someone, your liability is going to be tremendous when the accident investigators find out you were engaging in unsafe practices. Aside from the legal issues that will be brought up by the accident investigators, you will also likely face the wrath of the family members of those individuals you may have injured in the accident.

So, don't try to drive your vehicle by jury-rigging it. Get a tow truck to lift the front end off the ground and tow it to a reputable frame shop.

BTW, "welding" a cracked frame isn't going to hack it. It must also be reinforced, and reinforced correctly.

rob & Jim you guys are spot on here!!! hopefully he takes the advice. i know i dont want him slamming into my xj with my kids in it.

it is tricky to "weld" the frames on these xj's . like rob said take to a reputable professional!! i had to have frame work done for my long arm kit & i am so happy i paid a shop to do it.
