It has been a while since I've worked on a 22re motor and I am putting a motoring a truck for my father currently (94 22re 5 speed) while i had the head off i obviously checked for and warped surfaces and I also replaced the valve stem seals while I had it out, after installing the valve springs I went to place the rocker arm assembly back on it would not fully seat, not I am almost positive it is because of the valve springs being all the way out, i assumed that while i torque the head down on the block it will seat and compress the springs that need to, but since my torque wrench is locked in my box at work I figured I would make sure before I put it on. thanks for all the help.

>>>*You are correct, with the cam in place the assembly will not fully seat.

Remember to be sure the cam is in time or very close to it or a valve can be drawn into piston as the head is snugged down.

We set the engine at TDC, point the cam gear alignment pin stright up, drop head in place, line the assembly up as carefully as we can, then use a spin handle to turn the bolts in. Take each one down a bit at a time making sure the towers don't hang up on the five cam tower alignment dowels.

*Having done that I know how easy it is to do, the torque will squash the dowels and put the assembly in a bind. This can cause all sorts of troubles. I use a rubber hammer and tap the towers down slightly to get them started.

Then just torque them down in sequence, starting in the center and moving out. All there is to it....*EB

*Beats the he** outa me!....*LOL**...
