Getting the Wheeling Fever
We took a weekend trip down to the Pueblo area and put mostly highway miles on the '98 Montero. I drove around 80 mph most of the time on I25. I was able to get 19.7 mpg on 85 octane fuel. I am very pleased. I was able to get a hair over 20 on a cross-country trip last fall. I better count my blessing until the new larger tires go on!

That's pretty decent. After spending the last year replacing misc. sensors and exhaust parts my Sport with a SAS and 35s is back up to 18-19 on the highway. A little tweeking and there's no reason you shouldn't be able to keep that real close to 19 even with larger tires.

Body Damage is Cool
I have really hard time believing you can attain 18-19 mpg hwy or not on 35s. I'd be surprised of 15 actually. Well maybe if you drive 55 mph with tailwind.
How many miles did you drive, what conditions. How many tanks of gas? (Anything less than 2 tanks has very little meaning)
19.7 is very good for stock truck as well. Prob not real either. Yeah I've calculated something like that occasionally on fill up but it's really just a fluke. On real hwy trip something like say from Missouri to Maine and back totaling 4500 miles it averages to about 17 - 17.5.

I'd have to agree, 19 mpg on 35s would be a dream come true. I am constantly checking and calculating the MPG on my rig. I get about 15 mpg, on 31s... I think it's time for a rebuild

The best mileage I've gotten was when we moved from Michigan to Colorado last fall. The '98 average 20.1 mpg. We were driving around 60 mph most of the way since I was pulling a trailer with our '03 Montero and I couldn't go any faster and feel comfortable. I got about 11 mpg withe the '03 pulling the loaded trailer

Typically I get between 16 and 17 mpg with mixed driving in the '98. I told my wife we will have to start using her Montero for trips after I get the new tires installed!

I can get up to (or maybe a little more than) 24 mpg on a tank of gas with mine, and I have 33s. To do it, I have to drive 55 on the freeway and not do any in town driving.

Since I changed jobs and work much closer to home, I get about 16 mpg.
