Is it safe to say the ground on the rear lights is the metal brace inside the light. I just installed the ruged ridge light protectors and now there not working just right. if i have the lights on and turn right the right signal blinks but so does the reverse lights on both sides. But by its self it works fine. so i'm thinking its the ground. or could it be something else?

Everything on a vehicle is grounded if you can follow a METAL trail back to the engine...and therefore the battery thru the BLACK battery cable..
So is this metal brace bolted back to another metal part which in turn... I'm gonna stop here.

yes i had to take off the whole tail light slide it into the guard and bolt it back on. so somwhere in the install something went screwy. Th efirst time everything was all screwed up, i couldnt do any combinations with the light. like blinker and brake, or lights on and brake, blinker and lights. but now its just the right turn signal. think im just going to take it apart and try again.

ok all better. The bolts that hold the light to the jeep were loose. Once tight it all worked.
thanks for the help.

Body Damage is Cool
That was a common problem for me when I still had the steel tub on my Jeep.

I found that I could avoid the problem by using a twice-a-year preventative maintenance procedure where I did a couple of things: (1) I unscrewed each of the light assembly mounting screws a couple of times. This tended to scrape the rust off the screw threads and the hole in the sheet metal, making for a better electrical ground. (2) I used a small amount of Never-Seize on the screw threads. The metal content in that compound helped get a good electrical contact. Once I started doing this, I never had the problem again.
