I have a '93 w/ 22RE...I am no idiot...I have worked on the 22R and RE for the last 15yrs. I broke a timing chain and am swapping in another motor...I want to run a carb (weber) and need to figure out a few things... I just want simplicity, my old engine leaked lots of oil and most of the wires are in poor shape...I am done doing any hard core rockcrawling, the truck will just be used for hunting and hauling stuff...I go into the back country here in Idaho quite often so being self reliant is important...for the most part w/ the carb I just have fuel and spark to worry about...
Anyway, I need help with the following issues:
Distributor...I know I need to run a older vacume advance unit, and have one; so do I need to change out the ignitor?? If so how do I wire it in?? Do I need to swap out the ECM (computer) to an older 22R to support the 22R ignition system??
Fuel Delivery...Should I keep my old EFI pump in the tank and install a pressure regulator for the carb??? OR disable thte old pump and just use a mechanical one??? Will the mechanical unit pull fuel through the electric unit in the tank, or does it need to come out???
Please help...THANKS!!

1) The existing ignitor / distributor setup is going to work with EFI only. It's designed to provide and accept signals from a computer.
2) Use a 22R distributor / ignitor setup. If you get lost, there is a way to use Chevy parts with the 22R distributor - the how-to / post is over on pirate.
3) Fuel delivery. The existing 22re fuel pump is turned on by grounding a switch at the AFM - when the flapper opens. You'll have to work around that. You need a by-pass regulator or you'll be pushing 70+ psi of unregulated fuel into a carb and will definitely blow it out. The regulator should be a by-pass type, under 5psi, and should have a return.

Thanks!!
So the non-efi dist&ignitor will basicly work "stand alone" once suppled w/ 12v and engine vaccume??
Should I leave my computer in place?? what else does it control besides the engine??
Could I just disable the electric fuel pump, let it remain in place...would fuel pass thru to a mechanical pump?
I read the conversion to chevy parts for ignition and it sounds ok if you can sort through and figure out which parts you need and how to wire it up so it works... I would just like to get the carb engine up and running and then try the chevy stuff once I know I have figured out the efi to carb swap.
I will swap over my '91 4x4 to the weber set up once I get the '93 done...it's nice to have at least 1 up and running..
Any other additional info would be very much appriciated.
THANKS!!
