I do have a question that has been bothering me...

I notice that the stock radiator shroud is offset upwards, so a good portion of the radius of the fan is blocked off at the very top. I guess this was necessary because of the gemoetry of the engine where it lines up with the radiator or something, but with an electric fan, there is no NEED to do this, you could perfectly center the fan on the radiator.

However, to do this would require making a custom shroud or not having a shroud at all (how mine used to be set up).

Do you guys think it's worth making a custom shroud to center the fan and maximize airflow?

If so, any ideas on HOW to make it? I'm thinking I could make one pretty easily out of fiberglass resin, would it stand up to the heat?

I have the fan mounted in the hole of the shroud, not very close to the radiator(about the same depth as the stock fan). I have no issues running hot. I know that I have read where installing the fan as close to the radiator as possible is optimal. The reason I chose to mount mine in the shroud, was that then air would be pulled through the entire radiator, not just the center. I never experimented with anything.
With mounting another 16" "pusher" to replace the AC condenser fan, it should work really good, and using a SPAL fan-pwm when it gets hot enough they both will be running full on and pumping more air than just one.

Nuke in theory you are right but since the sroud is supose to be designed as Everet said to draw air from the whole radiator...

Experience ( and only ) showed that there are not any issues any way an the fuss of making a new sroud is considerable..

Two possibilitiw for improuvment in my instalation at least would be
a. to possition the fan completely inside the sroud ( as wou can see in the fotos halh of the fan is out and then
b. "close" the gap that is about 1cm between sroud and fan...

but that is a .... future project since there is not an immediate need...

Hmm well it's probably not necessary, might be fun though. It's a lot of trouble making stuff out of fiberglass, I just did a job tonight where I reinforced my cartop carrier with fiberglass and that was really simple, just putting on a few layers on top of something, but even that was a big messy job.

How hot does it get in Greece? I know when I had an electric fan I didn't have any overheating problems in Arizona, which averages about 40.5 c in the summer but can reach 50 c.

I want to buy a SPAL fan like you also because I don't trust the cheaper fans. I bought cheaper fans before and they did not last. I know SPAL makes quality fans.

I only noticed now that you fitted the thermal switch on the LOWER hose. Why, seeing that the hot water from the engine enters the radiator from the top and that this water has to be cooled? If you mount it in the bottom hose the water has already cooled down. Would not the engine then overheat?

Seems to me like it would work because if the water coming out the bottom of the radiator is not cool enough, this means the water isn't getting cooled enough by the radiator, which means there is not enough airflow, which means the fan needs to go on.
