Getting the Wheeling Fever

Bigbird, I forgot I had another sender at the shop. I was a little hesitant to cut up the one that was on the Jeep just in case I couldn't get things to work. I figured I didn't have anything to lose with the spare. Looking back, I should have done that in the first place.
BigJim, This seems to work OK. I hooked up the gage to the sender and played with the float. It moved from E to F if that says anything. After I got it installed, the gauge read 1/4 full which is about where it was with the old gauge.
I am going to finish up painting parts tomorrow and then start assembling the truck on Friday. I got the tub back on the frame today. I Herculined the interior. It came out pretty good. Mike

If it is an after market gauge, why not just replace it with the correct one for your sending unit? 73/10 is typical of ford and chrysler, while the 230/0 gauge you have is typical of AMC.
You can pick a nice high quality 2" gauge from iEquus for around $30
I just went thru the same ordeal with my 64' Plymouth the correct gauge makes things so better.

I am going to start the process of getting my guages working on my project and I really am dreading the fuel sender and guage end of it. I just bought an old Ford van that has guage problems. It would show empty and still have better than a 1/4 tank. I finally put 5 gallons of gas in a can and filled the tank up, then ran it dry after recording the mileage to see. Its the only way I know to get an idea of how far it will go with a full tank. At least I dont freak now when it reads empty with 50 miles more possible. The one advantage to having the guage reading empty with a 1/4 tank left is it doesnt cost as much to fill it!! Just get yours as close to accurate as possible and follow Jim's advice and learn the guages limitations. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

At this very moment I am driving it on a full tank and checking it down to EMPTY..As I feel everyone, including my wife, should KNOW where "empty" really is on their gauge. And how far the vehicle can go if registering 1/4 tank. Even though this vehicle has the fancy constant reading fuel computer in it I STILL WANT TO KNOW MYSELF how accurate the fuel gauge is. Also as a first: This thing has a 39 gallon tank in it..That's right $200. to fill it!! This tank we got her down to the "E" and put 38-1/2 gallons in there (somewhere!)
