just got a 92 xj with a 3.5 prochump lift. has the d35 turd in the rear with anti lock brakes. i want to upgrade to either a 44 or a chrysler 8.25. should i be looking at grand cherokees? i have welders so thats not an issue.
any suggestions would be appreciated.
how about a ruby 44 rear? are they abs?

The easiest swap would be the 8.25 Chrysler out of another Cherokee. They were stock in a bunch of them. Don't know what years, but the GF's '01 has it.

Body Damage is Cool
97+ have 29 spline shafts, earlier are 27. 8.25
Earliers can be converted.

D44 is best, but hard tyo find.

88-90' only. and not a lot of them.

ok i got my hands on a couple of d44 out of xj's. both are 3.54 & open diffs. one is complete drums & the other is brakeless. what do i need to do to make the brakes work with my abs system? maybe a disc conversion?
or can you just put in an axle that has regualr brakes? or do they have to be antilock?

They do not have to be discs. As far as I know it's all 'puter contolled form beyond. Discs would be the better option simply for maintenance, but that's about it. How it all needs to be hooked up....Beyond me.
