My 88 truck has been not wanting to start for the last 3 days, after it sits overnight. It turns over very fast. After about 5 min of cranking, stopping, cranking, it fires up and runs great. All day long, no matter how many stops, it starts every time, very quickly. It sits at work for almost 10 hours, and will start if you just look at the key real hard. It only seems to be an overnight thing. This morning, no startie at all. I've been cranking and testing per the FSM all day. Every component is within the spec limits and operational, EXCEPT, no fuel and no fuel pump noise. I tried Roger's trick with the Fp and B jumper several times today and haven't heard a peep out of the pump. After tesing the AFM door opening for the fuel pump switch, (Infinity closed, resistance open), I tried the fuel jumper one more time out of desperation. When I went around to crank the truck, after turning on the ign, I heard the fuel pump whine for the first time today. The truck started right up. BTW, I tested the Circuit Open Relay and it passed all the checks. Since the truck will start and run (eventually!!), I am reluctant to burn 160 big ones on a new pump. FYI, I replaced the fuel tank cap and fuel gage sending unit, but that was over a month ago. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT CAN CAUSE THE INTERMITTENT PROBLEM!? Save me the money! I appreciate any help you guys can offer.

Check the voltage at the pump connector, under load. That is measure the voltage there when the pump should be running and with the pump connected. If you get a good 12 volts there, then the pump is flaking out, if the voltage is much lower than the battery, then there is a wiring or electrical problem upstream of the pump.
