Getting the Wheeling Fever

Hey all I sold my '88 today to a kid who works for me (needed a cheap vehicle). As most Raider/Montero owners go as soon as it was gone I started looking for another . I found one locally for a decent price, it's an '86. Any pros or cons with this year? I thought I heard a while back that these had a diff. gear ratio possibly or suspension? It's a two door 2.3 with the 5spd. Any insight? Thanks

No 2.3L unless it's a deisel.
The major mechanical differences between an 86 and 88 models are basically the carb and exhaust...non-feedback carb and a pre-cat in the exhaust manifold. There may be differences in the interior fabric and steering wheel, depending on build date. The gas cap door may or may not have a remote opener. Pretty much the same thing.
There are a few Gen I 2-doors on the Sac Craigslist. There's a real peach white 4-door on the San Francisco CL. You could now go with a Gen II or buy GhostRaider's 2-door V6 on the classifieds here.
Best of luck!

Thanks for the response rx. Typo on the 2.3 I meant 2.6. I looked at the one in SF, you're right, very nice. I wll run out today or tommorrow to view the one locally. They say they are havinig touble passing the E test with it and have installed a new carb and cat. I'll see. It has 35" tires on it but It doesnt look like its been lifted, interesting. It will definately need a roof rack, I got used having mine, any out there for a gen I two door? I'll keep you posted

I called that guy earlier today, he's sending pics and I'm going to look at it Monday or Tuesday Any thoughts on the "hesitating"?

Don't 'hesitate'...V6 automatic Gen I 2-door is the Grail.
Based on his advert, it could be a fuel pump, filter, something fuel related...?
