Raider died a mile from home...
Swapped ECU with a known good spare.
swapped coil from Jacobs to good stock.
Tried testing power transistor, but am not sure I got it right. Could someone post the procedure?
Does anyone have the test procedure for the optic module in the distributor?

Fuel pump is working & I shot the intake with carb cleaner & still didn't get a thing...

Thanks alot...

Ed

Ed -

Do you have 12v at the coil primary?

I posted this a few days ago - I think your wiring is the same color:

If I understand the distributor correctly........

The module looks through 2 slotted window radials with an IR beam. The row of 6 slots is the main firing trigger and the single slot is the crankshaft offset for base timing reference.

You can pull the distributor and bench test it with your voltmeter. Look at the harness leads to determine what's what on the distributor connector pins. Apply 12v+ to the positive lead (black w red stripe). Apply 12v(-) to the black lead. Turn the distributor and check for switched 5v+ or so on the green lead - that's the main firing trigger and switches every 60*. The white lead will also toggle voltage, but it's for 1* fine ECU control adjustment below 1500 rpms and idle, so you may not have enough resolution to see this toggle accurately..... but you should still see some movement.

As for the power transistor:

Thankyou, Frank, as usual you are a wealth of knowledge.

I could only find the power transistor at Advanced auto, at $82.49 5 days out. Autozone could test it, if they knew how to look it up. Tried every combination of words to no avail.

Not sure I want to put that into the Raider, as I have developed a rod knock.

Might be time for a cheap runner while I round up parts for an engine swap.

Man, I miss working at a salvage yard....

Again, THanks, Frank

TP125 is the NAPA part number. I can send you one tomorrow, if you'd like.

I believe it is specific to our vehicles. When I worked auto salvage, we tried a few different ones for a customer & it only made him mad.

Hazy, I appreciate yur offer, but I might be getting a 92 accord for $300. Think it just needs a main relay resolder.

With the fuel prices, I think that's the better route, as the rod knock in my engine & milage are prohibitive.

At least that's my excuse for an engine swap & turn the Raider into a weekend toy.

Well, I got a 90 Pathfinder for $600. Scrap value is around $520. It looks & drives nice, has A/C (WOO HOO), good interior & some decent rust repairs. Otherwise, underside looks like Baklavah. Rotted bad, but I figger that if it lasts 6t months, I should have something swapped intop the Raider & the Pathfinder will have exceeded the purchase price in scrap value.
