I read the article "GM 60 V6 Power Tricks." I just restored a 1984 s10 Blazer. I pulled the 2.8 and replaced it with a 3.4 from a Camaro. Huge difference in HP. Everythig runs sweet. I would love to put a low cost (cause I'm poor) TBI unit in place of the 2bl carb. However, Does anyone know about how or if to adapt the ECU? The article mentioned above only mentioned as far back as 1985. I assume there is a difference in ECUs.

Welcome to the 4x4Wire!

If you already have the 3.4L installed, there should be no problem sourcing the FI parts for it...intake manifold, TBI, wiring harness, ECU, electric fuel pump, etc. It's a Chevy, most of these things will be in your local self-service wrecking yard or professional breaker.

Clay, another board member will check in sooner or later. He was a GM tech. Me, I am just an old parts guy.

Basically, the computer that controls the carb really isn't going to work for TBI.

Figure on a pretty decent swap and a lot of wire pulling.

Heck, as long as you're at it, why not go for a full OBDII transplant? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the input. It does appear that most everything elect. would have to swap out. Huge job for maybe 20 more HP that the TBI would offer. I have been tinkering with the air system and will probably stop with exhaust upgrades. For anyone out there that is looking to upgrade a s10 truck or blazer, you cannot go wrong with the 3.4 V6. It is a clean swap to an original 2.8 4x4. Everything hooked up the same as the original. The air and exhaust (headers & big sexy pipes) should bring the power curve very close to a 4.3...Did I mentioned I also get an all around MPG of 20. I am very pleased with that. I did not have to go sink $30K in a toy that is too nice to use either. Well, gotta go. I see a mud puddle that needs a "Bow Tie" stamped across its gritty ass.
