Getting the Wheeling Fever
How is the best way to put motor in a 90' trooper? It is automatic, 2.8 V6, 4x4. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I am not sure what you are asking about. The easiest way is by opening the hood and using an engine hoist.

Let's start with you telling us what you are doing or wanting to do.

I agree with Michael. You definitely need to work from the top. It's almost impossible to get the motor in from the bottom.

Buy a Trooper. You'll be glad you did.

Well, I was thinking about this and "technically" the easiest way would be to open both rear doors and lay down the back seats. While this would get the engine into the Trooper, getting hooked up to the transmission is a bit tricky from that position.

Thats pretty funny! I guess what im trying to say is before i try to bolt the motor and transmission together what is the best way to tell if i have the torque converter in the transmission all the way? When i spin the torqure converter should the drive shaft move at the same speed?

Well...since the torque converter is bolted to the flexplate and the flexplate is bolted to the crankshaft, yes, I would say they should rotate in a 1:1 relationship.

Pretty much, if you have not seated the torque converter into the transmission, then you will not be able to mate the engine to the transmission. You may have to rotate the flexplate/converter to get the tangs on the torque converter to engage the front pump.

Good Luck,
Michael

Maybe I'm missing something.

But if the engine isn't running, the converter isn't turning
fast enough to run the pump, therefore the output shaft isn't going to turn.
The tail shaft shouldn't turn at all without the pump running.
And it wouldn't turn in 1:1 relation unless the converter
was locked up in 3rd gear, which isn't going to happen by
manually turning it over.

Right?
