Now that I've had:
(1) 1985 Montero (sold to CJM)
(1) 1986 Montero (our first financed car)
(2) 1987 Raiders (1 DD, 1 parted out
(3) 1987 Monteros (2 parted out, 1 sold to CJM)
(1) 1989 Montero 4-door (Witsubishi's LS)
(1) 1991 Montero 4-door (parts)
___
(9) Total

That doesn't make me a bad guy, right?

Hello. My name is Joe, and I am a Monteroholic.

I have, and have only ever had my one Montero. I paid $500 for it. So far, I have sunk approximately $20,000 into it. I will never get that $20,000 back.

But it climbs trees.

Hi Joe...Hi Joe {around the circle}....

My name is Brian, and I am a Monteroholic

I bought mine for $1,200, and have since sunk $4,000 into my addiction. I will never get that $4,000 back, but who the hell cares anyway, Joe is worse off than I am

87' Raider: off road package, rebuilt engine with (new) stock tires and alloy wheels but otherwise original.

$20,000
...Really? I guess those parts do add up fast.

I'm obsessed simply because it is my DD that multitasks from work rig to long haul family wagon to trail rig. I can do some moderate wheeling a few hundered miles away and have confidence that I will make it home. My montero has never stranded me. I exploded my harmonic balancer on the other side of Reno once and still made it up and over the pass near Truckee back to Sacramento. They are much tougher than I thought they would be. I'm very pleased with the vehicle.

Total cost(Truck, tires, parts). $5000 @ 2.5 years. So far I'm into it for $166 per month and she is going strong. I'm sure I'll have it for a few more years. If it lasts five years thats like 83 something a month. I have always liked paying cash for a DD. If you roll the thing you wont be too heart broken about it.

What he said! I know a big part of the attraction for me is that it is unique. And dependable. I paid over 15k for my '92...in '93 with less than 5k miles on it. I've had to replace some things, with the only major one being the transmision at 140k miles. But that was probably because I drove it for about 30k miles with it making some hellish noises. Put in a $1,100 tranny from Arizona with under 20k on it, and it's been good to me. At this point, I don't really ever want to own another vehicle of this type, and really hope I can keep her going until they take my liscense away.

I like my Raider because it is exactly what I wanted in a hunting vehicle.
