Getting the Wheeling Fever
I put a new rebuilt 22RE in my 87 4runner and it runs great but I have a small oil leak coming from one of the bolts on my oil pump. It is the long bolt next to the pressure relief adjustment. Would that be a gasket problem?

I had a similar leak on mine, I think I found two issues, one was that I had the wrong length bolt in one or two locations. Also, had to add some FIPG sealant on the threads of one to two bolts to stop the leak.

I would suspect the o-ring behind the housing. Other than the front oil seal, this is the only place oil can come out. Since the o-ring is between the oil and that particular bolt hole, I would have to venture that it is wore out or crimped. The o-ring is fragile and not always easy to handle when putting the oil pump housing on. A fine coating of vaseline, or even oil can help the o-ring stay in place while the housing is installed.

Body Damage is Cool
Here you go, straight from the Factory Service Manual. (notice the gasket sealer on the top bolt....)

The oil is coming from the long bolt just below the bolt that is supposed to have the sealant applied to the threads.

I think that is one of the bolts I added some sealant to the threads before installing.
