I really hope you guys can help me with this problem. As far as automotive issues go, it isn't huge (the truck still stops, starts, steers, etc.), but it is annoying.

My Rodeo came from the factory with a keyless entry/theft deterrent system. Until recently, the alarm and keyless entry have worked beautifully for as long as I've had the vehicle (three years this month).

On the night of July 10th the truck was parked in the driveway and had been there for several hours. Late in the evening, the alarm went off. I hurried out to shut it off so as not to bother the neighbors. A few minutes later, it did it again. Because it was late and I didn't want it to keep happening, I disconnected the battery.

The truck sat there for ten days while I was on vacation.

When I got back on the 21st, I changed the batteries in the keyless remote, re-connected the battery, and tried it out. Everything seemed to work fine. However, the alarm went off again later that same evening. I went out and disconnected the battery, then went back to bed.

I reconnected everything the next morning, fiddled with the system, discovered everything to be working ok and decided to leave it alone. That was Tuesday.

It worked fine until this afternoon, when the alarm went off again. I yanked the fuse for the alarm, left it out for a few minutes, put it back in, and everything seemed to work fine.

On my way to my in-laws' house, I noticed that the dome light was on, as were the small lamps in the doors. Going over a bump caused them to flicker, but they would not turn off (I noticed this on a few of the other occasions, too, but I thought they came on when the alarm activated itself. They wouldn't turn off then, either.)

Here's where it gets really weird...

After leaving the in-laws' house, I drove several miles to meet a friend at his house for dinner. When I arrived at his house and got out of the truck, none of the lights would turn off and the remote would not lock the truck. Upon leaving his house, I realized that all of the lights would turn off while I was making a left turn, but would immediately come back on again when the truck straightened out. Right turns had no effect and bumps still made the lights flicker.

I'm guessing that this is an issue with the pressure switches that detect whether the doors are closed or not and the problem is with the left/driver's side doors.

I borrowed a multimeter so that I can test the switches, but I've never used one before, so this should be interesting.

Am I on the right track? Is there something I haven't thought of?

Sorry for the long post...

Sounds like the alternator may be on its way out. When Isuzu alternators begin to go belly up, all kinds of electrical issues may occur as though aliens have taken over the vehicle. I'd have that checked first.

I hope that's not it - the alternator is only about two years old and only has about 15,000 miles on it.

I dont think its the alternator. This is a somewhat common problem. It usually either the rear hatch door switch or the hood switch. For the rear door switch, pull it out and find a washer or 2 it will fit through to space the switch out a little farther. For some reason they will push back enough to not make good contact. For the hood switch, just bend the mounting bracket upwards. They tend to bend down over time.

I don't think that it's the cargo/back door; the dome light in the cargo area is the only one that only comes on when I open the glass or hatch, then promptly shuts off when I close the door and the glass. It does not turn on when one of the passenger doors are opened, but I don't believe it's supposed to do so.

I did check the under-hood sensor. Its positioning seems to be fine.

Also, I peeled back part of the interior trim yesterday to check the wiring on the back side of the driver's door sensor. It was kinked but I couldn't see any place where it was visibly worn. Of course, the only way to check for that would be to take that whole section of wiring out of the truck and visually inspect it or use a multimeter.

Nonetheless, when I straightened it out, the problem was greatly improved. The lights did not come on as often and when they did, they went back out a lot faster. Due to that, I'm inclined to believe that the problem is there.
