I'm try to fix an electrical problem. I went over a succession of speedbumps at highspeed, the ignition went dead. The interior lights and ignition buzzer are still working. I don't see any blown fuses or disconnected cables. Any thoughts?

Here's a look at the mess of wires coming off the positive side of my battery:

If you still have dash lights and some circuits still work, there's some hope. There's probably just a loose ground to your starter. Check the main ground wire, which acts as both a chassis and engine ground. There should be a ground strap on the trans or t-case, and one at the bellhousing. Second, remove the ECU and smell it. If you smell burnt electrical smell...that could be a problem. It sounds like your Monty just wants to be stroked. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/oink.gif" alt="" />

Mine did that, radio still worked and everything but wouldn't crank at all. Same thing, hit some bumps and it died. Battery cables had shook loose and were not making good enough contact to start, but had enough contact to run everything else. I cleaned and tighened them and it's been ok since.

I had that happen a few months ago when I hit a pothole. The engine quit, but everything electrical kept working. Turns out the ignition wire from the coil to the dist. came loose.

I had it happen years ago. The battery hit the hood and shorted the thing in your first pic. Purchased a battery strap and a new fusible link and it has not hapened since. I think it was the one where your blue one is in the 2nd pic.

It is normally rated at 100. I replaced it at the time with an 80 because all the local stores were out of 100s. I have since purchased a 100 and kept it in the Raider ever since as a spare. Good luck. I think you are fine.

It was the fuseable link to the alternator! Though it didn't look blown, I broke it try to pull it out (didn't know you had to unbolt it). I replaced it and tightened up the positive terminal and it turned right over!
