Ok guys:
I am out in vancouver and I have a few questions regarding the injector pump.
1st symptom: When truck is hot the idle seams to be a bit rough, almost lumpylike a large lobed cam.
2nd symptom: When driving up the coquahalla up a steep grade I have periods of black smoke out the tailpipe, if I keep it floored the smoke will dissapear after about 30 seconds.
3rd symptom: After arriving in vancouver the truck seams to smoke quite a bit on acceleration. I also had to turn up the idle speed a bit as it was idleing a bit low.
So what do you think? Injector pump going?

Check the cheap things first:
Fuel Filter needs changed?
Did you notice this after a new tank of fuel? Bad fuel?
If you suspect a the fuel pump is leaking, then set the hand throttle to about 3000 rpm and use a flashlight and see if fuel is leaking, do you smell diesel in the engine bay? Quite often the top seal leaks on the pump, do you notice any wet spots on the pump?
If you don't know, then my suggestion is take it to CVI in Richmond. They know these vehicles like the back of their hand. They will be able to diagnose it and fix it.

I have had it in to cvi and Butch says there is a shim inside the pump that is wearing and it could use a rebuild, but he said if the pump is not leaking, and with the symptoms I have I should wait till the pump starts to leak before I bother to rebuild it. Problem is I live in Calgary, not exactly the center of the mitsubishi world. If I have an issue I will have to ship the pump to richmond, get it rebuilt, and reinstall it and time it. As expensive as a full rebuild is I will probably wait till it really needs it I guess. I suppose Butch would know best as he is the mitsu guru....

Cheers, Ah it is no big deal. After Butch adjusted it and the drive home it is running great. It always was a bit on the smokey side and I am wondering if someone had played with it in Japan and turned up the fuel. Butch said that when he did the injectors they were really dirty and I am guessing that that is a possibility. It starts great and runs nice, only smokes a bit under full throttle up a hill, so there really is no reason to do the pump.

I think that "almost" all of them will smoke on full power, so I would not feel bad.
