Hi. My isuzu 280 DT really battles to idle in the mornings. It starts then idles extremely rough with a lot of white smoke. The engine will then start to die and no matter how much fuel i give it, it will continue to die.Start again and keep the peddle down and revs above 1500rpm and i have to warm it up like this for at least 5 minutes!
Strangley once the engine is warm and going the vehicle pulls well, there is absolutely NO smoke even flat foot on the uphill and it starts and idles fine once warm.
Whats been done: ive replaced glowplugs( they are heating-tested) - fitted a new fuel line (no air in system).
Any advise? The injectors were also supposedly done.

does the ambient temp have any effect on this? how cold does it get where you're at? or is it just the fact its a cold start?

Are the plugs drawing amps? Can't think it can be much else?
White smoke is unburned diesel...

It gets to maybe 10 degrees celcius at the moment on a cold night. yes the plugs are drawing current. the only possibility i can think of is there is something with the pump setting as i have no idea how the pump opperates. someone mention that the pump might have a cold start solenoid on it or something to that extent.

Sorry for late reply. Is it the 2.8 diesel 4JB1? if so it has a cold start solenoid on the back of the fuel pump. There are two one is the stop solenoid and one is the cold start. The cold start leaves the glows on longer (after the light goes off) and ups the idle slightly. I run a wire from the batery to the glows via a starter solinoid and don't have the cold start system working at all and it starts fine. http://www.itocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11721&highlight=mini
