hello all,
Need to replace my inner oil seals on my dana 30, I know that I have to take out the diff, etc, my concern is when I go to put it back in (with the shims on the drivers side) do I need any special tools, or can I put it back together the exact way i too it out?
cheers

On the Dana 30, the shims should be located under the bearing roller cones so you should not have mess with them. Just be sure to mark you carrier side bearing caps so that they can be re-installed in their original positions. Keep the bearing cups isolated or mark them with tags so they don't get switched around.

i was planning on marking the vertical direction plus left and right with some marking paint (if it will stick) if I will mark it some how, thought though that there was a marking stamped on the B'caps .
Thanks for the help

I use a piece of the kids chalk to mark steel - for cutting or whatever - don't think it would cause a prob in a diff case.

Body Damage is Cool
Buy one of those inexpensive electric vibrating engravers used to mark your tools. They do a great job marking the bearing caps and anything else you want to install back the same way it came apart.
