Im planning on doing a spring-over lift on my wrangler, using factory springs.

i just had a few questions.

1st off, will I HAVE to do the high steer mod for the drag link to clear the spring, or will it be ok if I leave it below, or maybe use a drop pitman arm?

secondly, my plans are to put a chrystler 8.25 from a cherokee in the rear, because its already soa, and its a little stronger than the D35 thats in there. I am going to measure the spring pertches to make sure they are the same width, but if someone can confirm it for me, if they already know, then that would be great.

TOG,

To answer the first part of your question... You should be OK with a drop pitman. That is all I needed on my CJ. Part 2, dunno!

Good Luck! - Mike

ya. I figured a drop pitman would be ok as long as i still kept the stock springs.

What size tires do you intend to use? My thinking is that if you're going big enough to warrant going SOA, I'd go with nothing less than a D44.

well the whole reason Im going SOA is the price. I'm 18, and starting college, so I'm on a tight budget. Ill just put a cherokee axle on the rear and sell, or part out the D35 I have, then weld new spring perches onto the front. then i will need shocks, brake lines, a pitman arm, and just make a t-case drop until I can afford the SYE.

then I have a set of 31s that I will be using until I have spare cash for larger tires.

i jacked it up just to see how it would look, and it wasnt bad with the smaller tires. I just need something to let me go on the tougher trails with my family untill i can build it up more.

basically i dont want to end up paying for a small lift just to replace it with a bigger one in a year or 2.

You will be ok with a drop pitman arm. You need to remember though that a spring over will generally net you 4 inches of lift. Have you considered driveline issues. The cherokee rear axle will be ok and if not you can always move the perches. I would check the width though so you dont have the problem of two different sized axles.

ya. I had already considered the width, and the DL angles.

I am waiting to get the measurement of the spring perch width on a cherokee axle. Does anyone know?

I know the overall axle widths are the same tho.

On the YJ, center to center is only 40.5" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

do XJs have the same width axles as YJs? i thought they did
seems like making the spring perches 3 3/4" wider wouldnt even fit.

If XJs have a different width axle, there goes my plans for simplicity..
