Ok, replaced the superstack with the OE coil and swapped the original ignitor pack back on. nothing has changed in performance. same symptoms. Used the fuel jumper, definitely hear the secondary circuit opening relay clicking open and closed.

4crawlers website points out where the main relay is, but theres nothing about any testing procedures/electrical resistance thresholds to test for.

As for the AFM....

when I tested the resistance, this is what I got:

1. E2 - VS -flashes 300ish, then goes to 0
2. E2 - VC -189
3. E2 - VB -290
4. E2 - THA -0
5. E1 - FC -0

Now, according to the FSM and 4crawler #s, the AFM is bad? But Darin swapped me AFMs when he came to help me out a few years ago. And I haven't tampered with it since. He said it was good, and I trust him.

ok....an interesting twist. I pulled out the AFM to move the measuring plate around...and its CORRODED shut!! barring pulling off the bottom plate held on by a crap load of small screws, what is a safe way to clean out the corrosion and get the plate open..?

FWIW, I got it to move maybe a 1/16" by force and thats as far as I could move it without fear of breaking stuff.

4crawler, I read that @ the pass. side kick panel, the relay there is the secondary Circuit Open relay. You note here Fuel Pump Jumper that there is a main relay
Quote
The Main Relay is located in the driver's side kick panel, in the lower left hand corner of the relay panel above the fuse block.
. Am I mis-understanding your information? Is there testing parameters for the main relay? I am working with the understanding that having the fuel jumper in and hearing the relay cycle on and off is an adequate result for the secondary, which is what I am getting using that test on my truck. I was speaking about the main relay in my previous post.

Also, I spent some time with PB blaster working the paddle wheel inside the AFM. I got it moving freely, but after sitting for a few moments it becomes stiff again. I assembled everything, and it fired right up and ran great for a few minutes, then reverted back to its prior symptoms. MAN did it sound good smile ...so, its 1 of 2 things that affected the change. I used alot of PB, which is could of worked like starting fluid, or the air measurement paddle could of started gumming up again. It was getting dark so I didn't pull it apart again. Anybody have any thoughts?

Time for a new AFM, I'm afraid <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />
Sounds like yours is junkered up with corrosion.
That will make it do what it is doing.

x2, there is no known repair for a bad AFM. Once corrosion sets in or the circuitry goes bad, head for the junkyard.

OK, was thinking you were referring to the Circuit Opening relay. With a relay, any relay, there are two components involved in making it work properly. One is the coil(s) that energize and create a magnetic field to pull in the contacts. That is the click you hear. The second part is whether those contacts really make electrical contact sufficient to conduct the current the load needs. If those contacts are pitted or dirty, you may not get enough current flowing to power the load, in this case the fuel pump.

The fact that the CO relay is clicking says that it is getting power from the main relay, as that is what supplies power for the CO relay coil and it's contacts as well. So you could either check the voltage someplace between the main relay and the CO relay or check at the fuel pump.
