Getting the Wheeling Fever
Pulled the transmission and transfer case from my donor yesterday and found a couple of things I'm not sure of.
Number 1 is this shaft sticking out of the passenger side of the trans. I know its the the far side of the gear selector shaft, but is something missing here? Why the seal if nothing goes in there and obviously it wasn't leaking? (sorry for the fuzzy pic)

Then there is this mount on the side of the transfer case which is definately not in the best of shape. I'm sure its some kind of torque limiter to prevent torque reaction in the drivetrain. The FSM refers to it as "Transfer mounting bracket" in the A/T removal section, but I can't find the part in WinCaps or on any parts website. Searched the part number archive here with no luck. Not sure what's missing there (bearing, bushing, etc) but quick look says I should be able to find a bushing to fill the gap? Or maybe fab up something similar to a swaybar end link? Unless of course someone has a P/N and its still available.

Second picture is the transfer case support. It's not missing anything; that gap in the rubber bushing is as designed. It just keeps the transfer from moving too much. CAPS Main 11, sub 510, then right arrow over a few times till you get to the transmission crossmember.

The first picture is intriguing. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that was a PTO shaft. Haven't looked yet, but I'm almost positive my A/T doesn't have that.

To me, Photo 1 looks like it depicts the mount location for the gear selector.

Photo one is the other side of the gear selector. Thats fine.. its supposed to be like that.

Photo two is the roll stopper. Search on it, and you will find more than you can read.

on the other side of that gear selector shaft, i think in some applications, an indicator/sensor goes there.

Cool, thanks for all the info. Feel much better about the odd shaft sticking out the side of the tranny. Can't help but wonder why the Mitsu engineers went to all the trouble designing that goofy cross shaft shifter linkage when they had the selector shaft available on that side also ... I guess they didn't subscribe to the K.I.S.S. principle
I found the "torque strut" on misubishiparts.net P/N MB260676 for $20, may try to get a new one just cause the old ones are so rusty. Anyone try to get one lately? Although, I also found out that I will have to relocate the bracket 2 inches as I'm replacing a manual trans with this auto so it may be one of those things that get lost in the shuffle
Thanks again

Here's a better view of the driver's side selector shaft in case anyone is interested.

I have a tranny in my shop with a selector indicator sender in that position. It's for the trucks like my 95SR that have the gear selected display on the dash as well as the mechanical gear selected display on the shifter quadrant. I think the tranny is opposite side shifted because of the converter heat on the other side being death on the shifter bushings and plastics
