Need a Spot
Hello, I got my '91 Montero RS 3.0 V6 (LWB) all tuned up and getting it ready for the snow this season.

I am having some problem with the Auto-hub; it has hard time 'unlocking.' I searched and found out I can replace it with a manual locking ones for '84-'89 (Aisin).

1. Is it a direct swap?
2. How is the electronics worked out? I know that little light comes on to tell you that hubs are locked.

Here are the manual locking hubs that I found (Superwinch & Rugged Ridge)...
Manual Locking Hub '83-89

Or OEM Mitsubishi ones for '84-'88 from www.mitsubishiparts.com for $192.85

Thanks for the help!

You can get Superwinch ones from Summitracing.com for around $90 brand new. THere are no electronics in the hubs. It is a direct swap. Easy to do, you dont even have to take off the tire.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Just to let you know the OEM ones don't come as a set. That price is per side.

4wd light is independent of hub type. It's all controlled by 'lectron gizmos. It will work with either type.

Hey guys I got an '88 Raider here and I ordered a pair of the Superwinch "40053" hubs from 4x4 Connection. Went to install them only to discover that the new hubs have 17 splines whereas my old Auto Freewheelers and half shafts have [color:"red"]27[/color] splines! WTF?

Did I receive a mispackaged pair of hubs or is '88 some bass turd model year?
