Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a 92 toyota 4x4 and I swapped in an sr5 gauge cluster. Everything works great but I noticed the other day it looks like there is a little light for low fuel? I have ran it pretty low on fuel before and have never seen it come on. So I was just wondering if anyone else who put in an sr5 cluster if they have a working gas light

Thanks,
Brian

Yeah, you probably don't. I know other Toyotas, like the step kids 86 Celica, has a low fuel light, BUT, he also has an extra sensor at the bottom of his fuel pick-up assembly in his gas tank. My 85 4Runner does not have this sensor, or a low fuel light either.

Well I can see a light just to the left of the fuel gauge I just don't know if my fuel level sending unit is made to light it up when it's low on fuel.

I don't think you see these low fuel lights in the trucks until '86/87

Bosco, could be you're just seeing the backlighting. I picked up an SR5 cluster awhile back and held a flashlight up against the back just to see what all was in the panel; just a thought.

My '89 Runner has the base guage cluster and has a low fuel light. Don't know why yours wouldn't.

remember mine is a 92 and the sr5 cluster is out of a 92. Maybe I will just keep a can of gas with me and see how low it will go before I run out lol that would just suck if I were at a stop light or in traffic.

Probably doesnt have the correct sender in the tank. Just because theres a light doesnt mean it works. My 4Runner gas a glow plug light in the cluster, but for some reason it doesnt work

I ran my 95 pickup out of gas because I diddnt realize it DIDDNT have the low fuel light. That was a lousy 1 mile walk on the interstate at night to the gas station to call the wife, since my friggen cell phone was dead

Good post,

I replaced my fuel guage sender 2 years ago.
The fuel low warning light is on all the time.
I was meticulous when I installed it.
It's an SR-5.
Where to look?

Hugh
