 Front Diff Locker Question for Gen III Montero

I have the genIII (2001) Montero and I'm adding the ARB to the front next week. This will be my first vehicle with a front diff and I've reasearched the do's and don'ts of driving with the front diff engaged.
I've also heard (in other vehicles) of tie rods being susceptible to breaking as well as CV shafts.
So, I would like to find out what the weak spots are for the Gen III trucks and plan ahead by keeping spares onboard.
Any advice? Has anyone had any issues with the CVÆs breaking more often than the tie rods or vice versa?
If itÆs the tie rods, which one? The inner tie rod or the outer one with the ball joint?

I don't know much about the genIII's but a set of manual locking hubs can help the life of your CV's. It's a good upgrade over the auto locking hubs. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Someone else should chime in soon. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

I don't know much about the genIII's but a set of manual locking hubs can help the life of your CV's. I don't think the manual locking hubs are available for the Gen III.

dont know about Gen111, but I have a 1999 NL (you guys call Gen 2.5) & I reckon the parts are probably the same. I've had my front ARB locker , for about 3 years & no probs. It compliments the rear locker well. I dont think youll have any problems if you are sensible.

Gen3 has different technology up front. It has a freewheel clutch fork that engages or disengages the pass side axle shaft at the differential. As I understand it, with the pass side disconnected, the open diff will spin rather than turn the driver's side CV axle. So in 2WD the front diff is always turning, but the CV axles aren't. Locking hubs are unnecessary under that scenario.
I don't think enough people have been wheeling Gen3's to post about that front end's weak points. Love to hear some Gen3 wheelers chime in!

Gen 3 front is pretty much identical to Gen2 except wheel hub flanges. Wheeling would expose exactly same week points = not much.You can't put axle hubs on it.
