Getting the Wheeling Fever

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> hello everyone I have an axle from a 1979 Chevy K-10. Its a Dana 44 front axle. The vin on the truck I got it from says the truck is a 2WD truck. ???? And the Bill Of Material doesnt bring anything up on the Dana Spicer website. The Bill Of Material number is 603375 on the axle, and when I cut it out at the junk yard today it had a drive shaft to the tranny? Either the vin on the truck is wrong. Or the axle BOM number is wrong. I just want to know where the axle came from and what exactly is inside of it. I just dont know where to look to get more info on either the 1979 chevy K-10 i cut the axle from today or the actual axle itself. Any ideas thank you? The perches on the danna 44 match up great with my 1995 T-100 frame and the length of the axle is perfect as well. I am most likely going to guy the whole axle and fill it with new offroad parts. Anyways, any ideas on how I could find out were the axle truly came from??? Thanks all

It could be a GM 10-bolt. Is the diff cover oval/round or more diamond shaped?
From the knuckles out a 10-bolt and a D44 are nearly identical and you can make either one work.

It says dana 44 on it. I went back tot he truck today at the junk yard. The axle was put on the truck, wasnt OEM. So I know its a Dana 44 now. I am taking it apart now and cleaning it with acid. And then puting new parts in. So if you know anyone that is imterested in Dana 44 front end parts let me know. Thanks for replying. The bill of material though doesnt show up and i dont know why. thanks again...
