Getting the Wheeling Fever
Alright I have looked everywhere online and I can't seem to find what the towing capacity is for my truck... I have a 1993 T100 SR5 2wd, I can't even find a decent 2wd forum for my truck so I figured I would post it here. I currently have 2" ball on my bumper, no other hitch currently? It seems that I am riding on my bump stops if I have a small/medium load of fire wood in the bed. I'm wondering if I can pull a 17' fiberglass bass boat with a 90 hp on it. I'm guessing the boat, motor & trailer are about 2300 lbs. Would it be safe to tow???

Next question is can I beef up the rear springs any?? I just put new shocks on and it made a little difference but not much.

Thanks in advance...

2300 lbs should be well within the towing capacity of your truck. If its a V6 the limit is probably closer to 5k (at least it is for my truck).

Shocks generally don't carry a load or add load capacity unless they are air shocks. They are just there for dampening.

Add-a-leaves and air bags are good ways to beef up the load capacity of the rear suspension.

I just happen to have the sales brochure from '93 for the T100 (should be the same for the '94 model year also). Here is what it says about towing capacities:

Gross Vehicle Weight Rating: 2WD 1/2 Ton: 5000 lbs., 2WD 1 Ton: 6000 lbs. , 4WD 1/2 Ton: 5500 lbs.

TOWING CAPACITY: 2WD 1/2 Ton 5000 lbs., 2WD 1 Ton 5000 lbs., 4WD 1/2 Ton 4500 lbs.

Gross Combination Weight Rating: 2WD 1/2 Ton: 9000 lbs., 2WD 1 Ton: 9000 lbs., 4WD 1/2 Ton: 9000 lbs.

There is a note about the towing capacity requiring a Class III tow hitch accessory. So if you need to tow, the Class III receiver would be the best way to go. HTH

I would agree with Erik about the add-a-leaf or air bags as being the best way to beef up the load capacity of the rear suspension. These trucks are known for the rear leafs getting a little weak (overtime) and causing the sagging rear issue. It doesn't take much of a load to be on the bump stops.

I added a Roadmaster Active Suspension on my T-100. Haven't had any problems with it at all. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
