Getting the Wheeling Fever
When I tried to set my cruise control today, all that I got was a blinking light and no engagement.

Any suggestions?

Hugh

I had a problem like that years ago when the brake pedal switch went bad. If I remember correctly, there's really 2 switch connections inside the brake switch - one for the brake lights and one to signal cruise control that you touched the brake, which disengages it immediately. You should try replacing the brake switch. That fixed it for me. I just remember it was a big pain to separate the wire plug-in from the switch. I had to use a screwdriver to pry somewhere on it. Check the new switch for where to pry. Be careful in case you don't have brake lights either.

other is that the master brake fluid reservoir... there is a float switch in there that fails... well actually the switch is there to see if the level of the brake fluid is low.

if low, it's supposed trigger that symptoms you are experiencing right now.

but when that switch fails... well, same thing.

on my 90 4runner, i just disconnected that switch in the cap from the harness.

WARNING: that switch has a safety function. disconnecting that switch might not tell you when you have a massive loss of brake fluid.

the toyota dealer wanted something like $70+ for that new cap and switch...

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check it out <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I just bought a new back-up light switch yesterday to replace the original switch that stopped working.

Update: I replaced my worn out backup light switch yesterday $42 Toyota part with AAA discount...now I have backup lights again <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Blinking Cruise Control light problem has stopped blinking, yesterday it worked fine. Brake fluid level looks fine too, so I will investigate again when the blinking symptom returns.

Thanks much <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />
