Hi all. I found an 83 22RE Celica in the bone yard a would like to know if it's injection will work with an 85+ truck's computer ect. Basicly, it's a pre 85 motor with the upper and lower plenum that looks like the 85-up 22RE's. The wireing/vacume lay out is unfamilar but it's all there. Has anyone heard of or done the swap?
Thanks all, Dan

This swap opens a huge can of worms: the early Celica EFI was analog, and the 85+ truck/4Runner EFI is digital. If you want EFI, make it easy on yourself and get one from an 85-88.5 truck or 4Runner. There are plenty out there and the parts are easily sourced. No need to start the process by digging a big hole.

Thanks for the reply Mosk. I did not know that, huh. Just a thought, flame me if it sounds crazy. Could I use the lower plenum to adapt the 85+ injection to the 84- motor? I havent taken a realy good look at it all but it looks so much like the 85+ upper plenum. I suppose they could have done some changes. IDK.
The reason being is that I have a built up 84 22R I built for circle track racing but never used it. I don't realy like carbs. What do you think?
Thanks, Dan

The EFI and carb manifolds have different bolt patterns. As long as the head has the holes for the EFI manifold, it will bolt up fine. Not all early heads do, IIRC.

not trying to high jack the post but i am parting out my 88 4runner (see 4-sale) and have most of the fuel injection system if you interested. the only thing missing is the fuel rail, just sold it. but i have ll of the wiring harness plenum/intake/throttle body maf system etc. can make you a great deal.
