Getting the Wheeling Fever
HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF A TOYOTA 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION? I AM CURIOUS. I KNOW THEY HAD ONE IN A CELICA BUT IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE ONE IN A T-100? ALSO ON THE TRD WEB SITE THEY ONLY CARRY A SUPERCHARGER FOR 1997 - 1998 T-100'S. BUT IT SAYS THEY ARE FOR THE 3.4 L ENGINE. I ASSUME THIS SUPERCHARGER WILL FIT IN MY 95 T-100. THANKS FOR ANY RESPONSE.

Leave the rear alone. There's no need to swap it out if you're running a 1/2ton front. The widths match up closely enough, and the rear is already stronger than a front 44. If you really felt the need to do more surgery at the same time you're replacing the front then you could do a full float conversion on the rear.

If you're going to swap in a 60 rear, you might as well swap in a 14 bolt full floater, and if you're going to do that you might as well swap in a 60 front, and if you're going to do that you might as well swap in rockwells.

For the brakes if you need EVERYthing from the knuckles out, you need to start calling junkyards to find spindles, backing plates and ideally spindle nuts. Everything else you should be able to get at Carquest or Chevy (I'd only look to the dealer if you need the hub/spindle nuts, and then iirc there's another mini conversion you can do to use some from a Ford and make r&i easier). There's nothing really wrong about using 10 bolt outers on a 44. If you have to argue about spindle strength on a 1/2t front either your tires are too big or your left foot is too heavy and you need to return to paragraph 2.

THE BIG QUESTION I HAVE IS WHERE IN THE HELL DO I FIND A COMPLE DISK BRAKE KIT FOR A DANA 44. AND I AM NOT ABOUT TO USE BRAKES FROM A 1979 CHEVY k10 LOL.

I'm not sure what you're asking. You don't want to use the brakes for the axle you have? Or you're looking for an upgrade?

As Adam said- just go to the junkyard. Chevy/GM 10-bolt and D44 as well as full size Jeep Cherokee and Wagoneers D44's all have the same parts from the knuckle out. New calipers and rotors and other rebuild parts like bearings and seals can be found at any auto parts store, everything else is best found at the junkyard.

Thanks for responding. So there is no disk brake system out there that will fit a dana 44, even if its not chevy brake system? from the knuckles out i would assume that any brake system with the right lug and hole count would be okay. I dont know a lot about this obviously lol.
As for the first response im not going to mess with the rear of my truck. The disk brakes that came with the D44 are just beyond repair and i was hoping for an upgrade or just new replacements. thanks for all the help everyone.

10b and 44 spindles and inner bearings are subtly different. You can bolt the outers from either to either knuckle, but you need to match the bearings to the spindle. I lost a weekend over this one. I would just source the whole set of outers from a single year and not mix and match if possible.

There is. It's called the brakes that are on it, service parts still readily available at most every parts store. I'm no longer sure what you're asking. Did you get a drum brake axle you want to convert to discs? You said they're discs, but also that you "don't know a lot."

Or are you concerned about matching up the hydraulics? Best to do that by cutting off the metric bubble flare at the hard line and redoing it with a SAE double flare to fit the Chevy soft line. There may be a soft line out there that goes metric to SAE, but I don't know where to tell you to get it.

The problem with the brakes are they are horrible. I am going to have 29 inch tires and I dont want to have OEM brakes. I want Brembo or some aftermarket name brand. I have had big tires before on oem brakes, it just doesnt work well. I am lookng at Tundra brake systems with 6 lug. I dont know enough to know if they will fit or not. Thats my question. Sorry i wasnt specific. smile

Brakes gotta be Chevy/GM. 10 bolt, Dana44. You can upgrade to Brembo or Raybestos or whatever suits you. FWIW I can lock up my 36s with aftermarket OEM gear. I guess I did buy heavy duty calipers the last time I replaced them, but it was a catalog listed replacement, nothing special. I'm guessing the 29 is a typo for 39. S10 brakes would be adequate for 29" tires (not that they would bolt up).

Ya I called Brembo today and they are sending me a 6 hole/lug rotor and a 6 hole/lug hub assymbly. I am going to use the caliper Brembo makes that goes with there big brake kit. They swear 100% that the hub assymbly they are sending me will do away with the spindle and hub assymbly from the Dana 44 i have. They also swear that the brake system is ABS compatable....I am getting them tomorrow morning so we will see then. Thanks for the replies and sorry if i wasnt clear on things, im frustrated and trying to learn as i go. It was a type on the 29 inch tires lol. supposed to be 39. I will let everyone know tomorrow what happends! since I am sure a lot of people might have questions about the brakes on a T-100 D44 swap.
If anyone has anymore info on the Swap that I might need to know that would be great!

Wow, you're jumping right in, huh!

ABS compatible? On a '79 D44?

You obviously don't know what you're doing. I recommend you stop and do a whole lot of research before you go removing anything from your truck...

Adam- I think the inner bearing difference you speak of is the difference between the "big bearing" and "small bearing" d44 spindles and inner bearings. 10-bolt = "big bearing" later style d44.

Wow, now you changed this post to engine/transmission questions...?

Short answer, NO you can't put a 6 speed in your T100, and NO the supercharger won't work on your '95. The SC will physically bolt up, but it won't run right because of the early style engine computer, which is why they only list it for the later models.
