Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey this seems to be the new hot topic injection pump questions. My 89 4D56 will barely start once started wont stay running for crap till its warmed up then it will run good as long as its moving once i stop at a light the RPM's just slowly fall and it goes to die but if i tap the gas pedal it revs up and is happy for another moment or two. the truck has 191000KM's on it i was going to send it in for a timing belt soon. when checking the oil tonight the top of my timing cover appeared a little wet and smelt somewhat like fuel do i have a bad seal or something with the injection pump any help on this would be great thanks and have a nice day.

Need a Spot
Hi Drtydzl,

Sounds like maybe your fuel pump seal has twisted inside the pump.

I had the same problem with my diesel Kiki fuel pump, not as bad for the hard starting and the dropping revs, but deff the fuel smell and fuel dripping out the pump.

I bought a fuel pump overhaul kit ($10Aus) and read a lot of info from http://www.pocuk.com/forums/ (Mods hope I can put that there, sorry if not) and took the top of the pump off and replaced the seal. This can be done in car and does not need the pump to be removed. If you have fuel leaking from another area of the pump you might have to take it out and get it fixed.

Have a good look through the pocuk website and do as much reading as you can, get your seal kit and pick up the spanners dude! good luck mate. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

saved me a packed fixing it, but I was lucky it was just the top seal.

Jim.
