Heres the deal, 1996 T100 3.4 4x4 110,200 miles great truck. Today went to start and no noise nothing at all... Starter was rebuilt 2000 miles ago. Moved shift lever around and it fired right up. Has done this twice.. Sound like linkage worn or park/neutral switch ??. Is there a way to check switch ??. Also by the way just put on Michelan ltx.ms tires 31x10.50s and love them..

I have the same issue, even though the truck maybe in park it really isnt fully locked in on the switch. I have adjusted my shifter around to no avail and just dont care anymore (it works but you must make sure your in park!).
Try adjusting the shifter rod, its this threaded rod under the hood near the brake booster and firewall.

Confirm CJ's analysis. Not unusual for older truck bodies to move a bit and shifter linkages get out of whack. If you can jiggle the shifter and hit a start spot, adjust linkage that contacts the switch.

if its an automatic there is a switch inside the lever that can wear out. i think its like the neutral switch. i ran into the problem on a vechile at work on time. u just move it around a little bit and it will start right up. look into it.

I'm over 200K miles now and this is a known issue... just jiggle the shifter.
